Colonel G. D. Rogers details the history of the grain community’s ability to take on key partnerships, both domestic and international, that made the Minnesota milling industry thrive in a “History of Flour Manufacture in Minnesota.” Because of grain business’s successful past in this region, Minnesotans live uniquely positioned among multiple grain-based businesses and excellent institutions of grain research. Out of this past, the Grains for Health Foundation (GHF) began operating in February 2009. The first year of GHF, although not quite finished, has been a year of laying infrastructure and building relationships. GHF has four major initiatives, including grain research, institutional nutrition, developing communities, and sustainable training. GHF and AACC Intl., working together, have the ability to successfully connect grain research across the continents in order to focus and prioritize grain research around improving health. In partnership, AACC Intl. and GHF can transcend geography and differences of language and customs to advance grain science and improve public health worldwide.
